About DisasterServices.com
DisasterServices.com is an independent consumer guide to property damage. When water, mold, fire, smoke, a storm, a flood, a sewage backup or a biohazard hits a home, we help you work out what happened, what to do in the first 48 hours, what the work should cost, what insurance usually covers, and how to hire the right professional.
We write for homeowners, renters, landlords and property managers across the United States, with extra depth on Florida, where we are based and where hurricane, flood and mold questions come up every year.
What we are not
We are an independent publisher. We are not a contractor, remediation company, public adjuster, insurance agency, law firm or medical provider. We are not affiliated with any restoration franchise, insurer, or relief organization, including organizations with similar names such as the Salvation Army's Emergency Disaster Services. We don't sell your phone number, and we never ask for your contact details to "get quotes."
How we work
- Health guidance comes from the CDC, EPA, the National Academies and other public health bodies, not from companies that sell remediation or testing.
- Legal and licensing facts come from the statute or the state agency, with the date we checked.
- Prices come from named, dated cost guides shown side by side, because published prices disagree.
- Every page shows when it was last updated and whether an independent expert has reviewed it.
